Personal data is the data which relates to a data subject. Personal data is within scope of EU and UK data protection law unless it has been completely anonymised. Obvious items of personal data include things such as name, address, phone number etc, less obvious items would include things such as genetic data, computer log-ins, IP addresses etc.

Some items of personal data are deemed more sensitive than others, these are classed as sensitive personal data and should be offered further level of protection as a breach of this type of data could result in a greater harm to the data subject.
